FREE Book Giveaway! (I mean, BOOKS)

Today, the a-mazing (no, make that A-mazing with a capital A) Kirsten Cappy of Curious City is launching a FREE STEM Story Hour Kit, designed especially for educators and librarians, to use with MY BUSY GREEN GARDEN. To get a look at this beautiful kit, just buzz, hop, flutter or dawdle on over to her website HERE.

And today, Curious City is starting a book giveaway (yes, as in FREE, F-R-E-E) to kick off the celebration of this gorgeous STEM Story Hour Kit. CC will be giving away 22 copies of the book! (special thanks to Tilbury House, my publisher, for donating the books). For details in how to enter the giveaway, click HERE.

But don’t dawdle too long–winners will be announced on May 8, on the Curious City DWP page. Please share this any educators or librarians you know!

Clever Disguises…What Scientists Call Camouflage

“There’s a surprise in clever disguise…”

This a repeating line in my latest picture book, MY BUSY GREEN GARDEN.

But what is the surprise in clever disguise? Well, you’ll just have to read the book to find out! (hint: the answer is below)

In the meantime, here are a few other “clever disguises”–also called “camouflage”–that animals use to blend in to keep themselves safe from predators.

Interview!

Tomorrow, my picture book, MY BUSY GREEN GARDEN will be released into the world! I’m so excited about this book because the art is stunning (well done, Carol Schwartz!) and the text was so much fun to write.

busygreengardencover-copy-2

In a nutshell (or in this case, maybe I should say a chrysalis), this book is about life in a flower garden and the creatures that inhabit or visit it. The cumulative text builds as more animals come into the garden, all while something mysterious is happening in the background.

Why am I posting a day before my book’s official birthday? Because children’s author Sarvinder Naberhaus posted a wonderful interview today on EMU’s Debuts, with Carol Schwartz and myself. Click HERE to read it. And I’m giving away a signed copy of the book for one lucky person who leaves a comment.

And just a reminder, tomorrow is the last day to enter my Goodreads Giveaway for a signed copy of MY BUSY GREEN GARDEN. To enter, click HERE.

Happy reading!

We Have BOOK COVERS!

Wow, the writing business can be full of happy surprises. I am so fortunate to have two books coming out in the spring 2017.

MY BUSY GREEN GARDEN (illustrated by Carol Schwartz, published by Tilbury House) is a rhyming cumulative picture book about insects you’d find in a garden. It has a release date of January 31, 2017.

MAMA LOVES YOU SO (illustrated by Simone Shin, published by Little Simon) is a rhyming board book that celebrates a mother’s love trumping even majestic mother nature. If you know me, you know I’m a huge nature-lover so I used nature metaphors to illustrate the power of a mother’s love. Little Simon is releasing this book on March 14, 2017.

Two books with release-dates about six weeks apart. But this week, I saw where both covers appeared online. WOW! Just look at these…

AREN’T THEY GORGEOUS???

I am so lucky to have two amazing illustrators create the art for my words. Thank you, Carol and Simone! If you’d like some more eye candy, please visit their websites:
